High quality nucleic acids are a key for downstream applications like genotyping, sequencing and real-time PCR analysis. Together with MACHEREY-NAGEL, Hamilton have designed the Genomic STARlet that can run up to eight methods on one instrument to reach minimal variation and optimal standardisation.

The Genomic STARlet isolates nucleic acids from diversified biological samples such as human blood, -cells, -tissue, and plant (DNA), plasmids, human tissue/cells (total RNA), human plasma (viral NA). The system also  purifies PCR products with the silica plate-based technology from MACHEREY-NAGEL in a non-IVD environment.

The nucleic acid extraction kits form MACHEREY-NAGEL have been tested on the system. Standard sample input and output labware from MACHEREY-NAGEL is already predefined. It can be selected when a run is started. The processes are optimized to save time and minimize tip consumption. Depending on the kit, up to 96 samples can be processed in 60-144 minutes. Several runs can be performed every day.

Technical Data:

The Genomic STARlet is able to extract nucleic acids from different sample materials with the silica plate based extraction technology from MACHERY-NAGEL. A integrated small footprint vacuum system from Hamilton is used to fully automate the procedure. All needed transfer steps to mount and demount the adapters in the vacuum chamber, binding plates, elution plates and the manifold top from the vacuum chamber are carried out by the CORE gripper technology from Hamilton.

Additionally, an integrated heater shaker with active plate lock is placed on deck to perform safe shaking and heat incubation in the respective processing steps.

In total, three application packages can be installed on the system comprising of 8 protocols in total. At least one application package is needed to run the Genomic STARlet.

The Genomic STARlet is available in 4 different hardware configurations, starting from 4 channel manual load (4ML) and 4 channel autoload (4AL) up to 8 channel manual load (8ML) and 8 channel autoload (8AL).

For reliable sample processing the Genomic STARlet provides process control. A status window displays the processing step that is actually performed and a report file is generated at the end of the extraction process.
